Haddenhams name is Anglo-Saxon and means Haeda’s Homestead. Today Haddenham is a large village with over 5000 residents. It is one of three villages with wychert walls and buildings (Wychert describes the mud and straw walls topped with tiles). It is renowned for its ponds which were used to breed Aylesbury ducks. Breeding has been revived recently and the pond in front of the parish church houses some of them. Haddenham is also the home of the St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital and has its own nature reserve.

Within the village there are 2 small general stores, a chemist, a petrol station, and several places to eat (pubs, Chinese, Indian, fish and chips). It has a train station (Haddenham and Thame Parkway, on the London to Birmingham line) and buses to and from Aylesbury and Oxford.

More information on Haddenham is available here.

There is a larger petrol station, supermarkets, accommodation and alternative eateries in the nearby town of Thame (3 miles). The nearest large town is Aylesbury (7miles), with plenty more options for food and accommodation. Oxford is the nearest city approximately 30-40 minutes away by car. London is also about an hour away along the M40.
